`Space Odyssey' Opens at Summit Theater April 10 THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

AMONG THE MANY charities
that benefit from the great Infants
Service Group Cherub Ball Dinner-
Dance and show are mentally-
retarded and blind youngsters .. .
This in itself is enough of a rea-
son for it being a sellout every
year . . . But the annual affair,
being held this Sunday, at the La-
tin Quarter, is such that it is
without a doubt one of the finest
social events in the community
. . . Eleanor Riseman is as usual
in charge of entertainment, and
this year again has an all-star
lineup, with comedienne Bobby
Baker, linguist - songstress Sami
O'Brien and last year's hit of the
show, violinist supreme Sasha
Tormas . . . Hal Gordon will back
the show and also play for danc-
ing . . . Barbara Ginsburg is
president of ISG.

MAYOR JOE FORBES of Oak
Park tells us of the officer still
with the force who was on duty
during a period of the rioting last
summer . . . A call came in and
he answered, "Hello, Public Safe-
ty, Officer Nasser speaking, can
I help you?" . . . and the obvious-
ly Jewish gent on the other end
replying after a moment's silence,
"No thanks, I'll call the FBI!"
. . . (Officer Joseph Nasser is one
of the fine members of Director
Glenn Leonard's department that
places Oak Park among the coun-
try's finest in law enforcement.)

Arthur C. Clarke, a foremost au-
thority on all aspects of space.
Marking Kubrick's first film since
"Dr. Strangelove," already con-
sidered a modern film classic,
"2001: A Space Odyssey" is one of
the most meticulously researched
and planned motion pictures ever
conceived.

Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A
Space Odyssey" will have its De-
troit premiere April 10 at the Sum-
mit Theater:
Presented in Cinerama as a re-
served-seat attraction, "2001: A
Space Odyssey" is an adventure
produced on an epic scale. With
Keir Dullea and Gary Lockwood
heading an international cast, the
Metrocolor production begins with
the world as it was millions of
years ago and advances into the
future as man confronts his des-
tiny in the beauty and strangeness
of the universe.
The motion picture's premiere
culminates a project which began
some 31/2 years ago when producer-
director Kubrick began writing
the screenplay in early 1964 with

"Noah," by Andre Obey will be
played by the UNIVERSITY OF
DETROIT THEATER for thr ee
consecutive weekends beginning
March 22. The story is the biblical
narrative of Noah and the flood,
is told with innocence and naivete,
yet humanly.
