Campaign to Open on March 20;

Many Divisions Conduct Drives

Brig. Gen. Avraham Yoffe, who
brilliantly led a division of the
Israel army in the Sinai Campaign,
will open the 1968 Allied Jewish
Campaign-Israel Emergency Fund
March 20, at a dinner at the Jew-
ish Center.
Gen. Yoffe, 55, retired from a
lifetime of military service in 1965
to become director of the authority
for Israel's natural resources. He
was called for a consultation at
army headquarters in Israel on
May 23, 1967, and suddenly found
himself in uniform. He completed
his assignment of completely rout-
ing the Egyptian army in the Six-
Day War in Mitla Pass and Suez
and three weeks later, on June 14,
his command was disbanded and
he returned to civilian duties.
The dinner scheduled for 7
p.m. will be preceded by a recep-
tion at 6:30 according to Alfred L.
Deutsch and Maxwell Jospey, cam-
paign co-chairmen.

its border with Lebanon for a flow
of tourists if the Lebanese govern-

career began in the 1940s as a
member of Palmach, commandos
of Hagana. He served in the War
of Liberation and later in the 1956
Sinai Campaign.

istry of education announced that ,
Hebrew instruction will be insti-
tuted in all schools in East Jerusa-
lem in grades 4 through 9. As in all
Arab and Jewish schools in the
rest of Israel, Hebrew instruction
will ge given for three hours a
week.
In Bethlehem, town councillors
and several leading merchants are
among the 55 residents who have
enrolled in Hebrew classes con-
