Fixtures Manufacturer

Max Sabaroff, a general con-
tractor and manufacturer of store
fixtures at 14211 Wyoming, died
Monday at age 73.
Born in Russia, Mr. Sabaroff,
8131 Marygrove, was active in
Jewish cultural groups and be-
longed to the Jewish Folk Chorus.
He leaves his wife, Rose; a son,
Arnold; a daughter, Mrs. Morris
Davidson; three sisters, Mrs. Nat
(Joyce) Reisen, Mrs. Jack (So-
nia) Singal and Toby; and six
grandchildren

A. J. Thorner Jr.,
Insurance Agency
Executive, Age 37

Arthur J. Thorner Jr., president
of Thorner and Co., Inc., died Feb.
9 at age 55. The company is a 57-
year-old, general insurance agency
in Detroit, having succeeded Fred
A Ginsburg & Co.
Born and reared in Toledo, Mr.
Thorner attended the University
of Michigan and first entered the
insurance business as an agent
for the New England Mutual Life
Insurance Co. in its Detroit office.
He became a partner in Fred A.
Ginsburg & Co. in 1952, succeeding
to ownership upon the death of Mr.
Ginsburg in 1963.
In 1967 he qualified for the New
England Mutual Life Hall of Fame
by reason of personal and agency
production in excess of $2,500,000.
In 1937, Mr. Thorner was the
United States amateur left-
handed golf champion and he
was club champion of Franklin
Mils Country Club for many
years. Active in the Evans
Scholarship Foundation, he sup-
ported many civic and charit-

able organizations.

During World War II he was a
lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, serv-
ing in the Pacific Theater, and re-
mained active in the U. S. Naval
Reserve for many years. He lived
at 432 Arlington, Birmingham.
He is survived by his wife, Peg-
gie; two daughters, Jayne and Pat;
a brother, Robert; and a sister.
Mrs. Bernard F. Segall.

Anna Stocker, Victim
of Two Holdup Men

Anna Stocker, who was beaten
in a holdup at the Stocker apart-
ment Jan. 16, died Sunday at
age 73.
Mrs. Stocker and her husband
Ben had been beaten by two armed
men who came to the apartment
pretending to be gas company em-
ployes. When they were admitted
to the apartment, one man bran-
dished a gun and announced a
holdup.
They beat Mr. Stocker when he
attempted to flee, and also struck
Mrs. Stocker, who suffered a de-
pressed skull fracture.
Mr. Stocker was later treated at
a hospital and released.
The attackers, arraigned on
another charge, have now been
arraigned on a charge of first
degree murder. There will be an
examination on that charge
Thursday.
Mrs. Stocker, born in London,
Ont., was a member of Temple
Israel. Besides her husband Ben.
17331 Greenfield, she leaves a son,
Dr. Harold S.; a daughter, Mrs.
Harold (Helen) S. Tobias; two
brothers, Sidney and Harold Rosen;
a sister, Mrs. Sol (Celia) Lazarus
of. Mineola, L.I.; and six grand-
children.

BENSTEIN, 21240 Westhampton,
Oak Park died Feb. 24. Survived
by his wife Ida; his father, Joseph
Rubenstein; a son, Harry; a dau-
ghter, Sandra; three brothers; one

Alex Kasmer, owner of Kasmer
Electric Co., 10220 Puritan, died
Tuesday at age 47.
Mr. Kasmer, 24651 Martha Wash-
ington, Southfield, was a native
of Detroit. He was a member of
Craftsman Lodge F&AM.
Surviving are his wife, Eleanor;
two sons, Russ and Bob; a daugh-
ter, Carol; his mother, Rea Kas-
mer; two brothers, Harry and Ed-
ward; and four sisters, Mrs. Ma-
son (Fay) Bruner, Mrs. Joe (Doris)
Fisher, Mrs. Herman (Ruth) Kol-
tonow and Mrs. Louis (Cecil) Wil-
liams.
