River) 962-1434 Danny Raskin's LISTENING P 0 S T WHEN TRAVELING, Margo and Maurice Cohen never go without a salami . . .and it was no differ. ent on their recent South Ameri- can tour . .. Getting on the plane for Curacao, Margo had one wrapped up in Maurice's bathing suit along with bread and mustard . . . After landing on the island and while staying at the Curacao- Hilton Hotel, one of the couples they had met on the plane, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Gladstone of Lan- sing, couldn't believe that the Coh- ens had a salami with them . . . From it M a r g o made hors d' oeuvres and sandwiches in the room and everybody had a salami party good time ... (No, Maurice's bathing suit didn't attract any big fish!) ■ • * WAITING FOR FRIENDS Frances and George Ober to go to dinner with them, Ann and Sam- my Woolf kept phoning but to no avail . . . Finally, the friends ar- rived and explained that, having run out of dog food, they took their two dogs to a nearby spot for ham- burgers. • • • JACK BIGELMAN, commander of the Detroit Police Reserves, Livernois Station, Precinct 10, re- ports that recruits are b e i n g sought between the ages of 29 and 95 to learn every phase of police operations including training in side arms, shot gun, rifle, coin- muications, all desk duty, scout car, fire arms use, and first aid .. . A new class starts March 18, says Jack, and applications must be sent in immediately so they can be cleared through the F.B.I. .. . The training, says Jack, whether used or not, is invaluable and dosen't cost a penny . . . The im- portance is especially so regard- ing first aid . . . which everybody should learn . . . Jack can be con- tacted either at the station or at home, DI 2-2206. • s • SINCE DADDY OFTEN —bri ngs home work from the office, little Sheldon, six-year-old son of An and Mark Rubin, asked why his father spent so much time in his study . . Ann explained that he had to bring work home because he didn't have time to finish it at the office . . . For first-grader Sheldon, there seemed an obvious solution to the problem . . Gee, mom, he suggested, "why don't they put daddy in a slow group, the way they do at school when you don't get your work done?" Foreign Films Invade Two Studio Theaters Two major foreign films have opened at two Studio Theaters. Both have received critical praise and several "Best Film" awards. "Closely Watched Trains," picked as one of the nominees for the Academy Award as "Best Foreign Film of the Year," opened for an exclusive Detroit premiere engage- ment at the Studio-North Theater. "La Guerre Est Finie," picked as "Best Foreign Film of the Year" by the New York Film Critics, opened at Studio I Thea- ter. "Trains" concerns the frus- trating search of a youth for the sexual reinforcement of his mas- culinity. "La Guerre Est Finie" is a drama about a courier for the anti- Franco underground in Spain.
