Mishkan Israel Women
Planning Games Night
Mishkan Israel Sisterhood will
hold its annual fund-raising games
night 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the
synagogue social hall.
Two of the gifts to be won are an
automatic changer hi-fi and a
child's two-wheel bicycle. There
are dozens of other gifts. The pub-
lic is invited. Tickets will be avail-
able at the door or by calling Ida
Wargon, LI 6-7532. Refreshments
will be served.
As a prelude to that gala dinner
you have been planning for a
special occasion may I suggest
sweet and sour meat balls and
chick pea salad, both served with
the drinks. These are not too fre-
quently seen on sweet tables and
both have eye-appeal when dressed
attractively. These are cocktail
suggestions.
Sweet and Sour Meat Balls
1 lb. chopped beef
1 tablespoon breadcrumbs
1/2 onion, grated
1 teaspoon salt
pepper to taste
cup water
1 egg
Mix all of above together with a
large spoon, make small balls of same
and drop into sauce below and simmer
45 minutes over a medium fire.
Sauce:
V.7 cup of jelly or cranberry sauce
2 tablespoons less than 1/2 cup
chili sauce or ketchup
1 teaspoon lemon juice or a little
more to taste
1 cup water
Boil above 1 minute.
Chick Pea Salad
1 lb. chick peas
1 clove garlic, minced
1 onion, minced
1 cup parsley, minced
6 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons wine vinegar
iX teaspoon salt
pepper to taste
Soak dried chick peas in cold water
overnight, drain and rinse in cold water,
add fresh water to cover and add salt
to taste. Cover and cook until tender,
about 1 hour. Drain, and add above in-
gredients.
Nothing is impossible to those
who put forth the effort.
