Rep. Cooper Introduces Resolution Asking the U.S. to Sell Arms to Israel

State Rep. Daniel S. Cooper,
Democrat of Oak Park, last week
introduced a resolution in the
State Legislature asking the United
States to take a more firm and
positive stand in its upport of the
state of Israel.
Cooper said that the status of
Israel is one of the primary con-
cerns of the free world, particu-
larly since it in-
volves not only a
commitment o f
morality and
principle, but the
national security
interest of the
United States.
Cooper stated
that this country
has stressed the
concept of com-
mitment in the
Asian struggle Rep. Cooper
where that commitment means
not only moral support but sup-
port of troops, munitions and un-
told amounts of money. "Surely
the commitment to Israel is on
an equal basis, and that tiny coun-
try has never asked for one
American troop or requested one
American boy to give his life in
that struggle. It is apparent that
the Soviet Union is not vacillating,
but has made it clear to the world
that it is firmly aligned with the
Arab bloc and has fortified its

commitment by the shipping of
arms, the establshment of bases
and the increase of naval deploy-
ment in the Mediterranean Sea,"
said Cooper.
He further noted that the Soviet
Union is sending giant jet bombers
to Egypt, and in the recent Middle
East struggle has made no secret
of its hostile position to the state
of Israel.
Cooper said that the United
States, which has firmly stated its
commitment to the Democratic
state of Israel, is now taking an
ambivalent position on Israel's re-
quest to purchase arms and jets
from this country, "and it is a
very difficult position to justify."
Cooper stated that Israel has

orphaned by the Civil War, the

cies to accept children from any
part of this country and Canada,
without restrictive regard of race
or religion.
The institution has flexibility
in adapting its programs to
changing conditions and new de-

field. This readiness to reorient
its guiding philosophy is reflect-
ed in its changes of name: from
Orphan Asylum to Orphan Home,
a n d recently to Residential
Treatment Center for Children.
In the past two decades, Belle-

meet the needs of the emotionally
disturbed child in a group setting
providing psychotherapy and social
