The son of a Jewish scholar and philosopher, Mr. Levin never got beyond elementary school but he parlayed a door-to-door notions business into a selling career that made a fortune. Among his other interests were the Jewish National Fund and the Hebrew University, where he es- tablished the Ida and Maurice Levin Dental Clinic: He was vice president of two family founda- tions, J.
