Try and Stop Me
O
By BENNETT CERF
N HIS FIRST TRIP abroad, an unsophisticated old rabbi,
treated to the vacation by a loving congregation, was
considerately steered in Paris to nothing but kosher restau-
rants, so that he would
not inadventently break
the orthodox ritual. When
the old man returned
home he told his friends,
"I don't know why they
make such a fuss about
that French cooking. We
have exactly the same
food at Mrs. Rosenberg's
boarding house!"

For the perfect start of
an outrageously funny
take-off, I give you the
opening paragraph of Don-
ald Ogden Stewart's "A
Parody Outline of History":
"On a memorable evening in the year 1904 I witnessed the
opening performance of Maude Adams in Peter Pan.' I shall
never forget the moment when Peter came to the front of the
stage and asked the audience if we believed in fairies. The
whole house shouted 'Yes! Yes!'—with the exception of the man
sitting directly in front of me. I pounded him on the back and
shouted, 'Wake up, man! Hurrah for the fairies! Hurrah!' Finally
he uttered a rather feeble 'Hurrah.'
"That was my first meeting with that admirable statesman,
Woodrow Wilson."

ing he wouldn't do for me. So we spend our lives doing nothing

your tracks, he can't pass you."---Albert Lasker.
Sermonettes will be presented
