UJA Campaign to Be Led by Rubenstein.
Gilbert Y. Rubenstein, Flint at-
torney and communal leader, will
be chairman of Flint's 1968 United
Jewish Appeal campaign and Israel
Emergency Fund, it was an-
nounced by Joseph Megdell, presi-
dent of the Flint Jewish Commu-
nity Council. Michael A. Pelavin
is newly appointed associate chair-
man.

the council, has been a key leader
in former UJA drives and during
the emergency of last June served

as chairman of the collection cam-
paign. He was responsible, in large
part, for bringing in more than
$650,000 in funds.
Recently returned from a na-
tional UJA mission to Israel,
Rubenstein said that the emer-
gency today is in many ways
more crucial than that of last
June and that 1968 could be the
year of decision in the Middle
East.
He also noted that pre-campaign
solicitations in Flint show an in-
crease to date of more than 20
per cent to both the regular cam-
paign and the Israel Emergency
Fund.
Rubenstein is past president of
the Genesee County Bar Associa-
tion, a key leader in Red Feather
campaigns and a board member
of several Flint organizations.
Pelavin has in a few years
achieved a top leadership role in
Flint.
He was the winner of the
council's 1966 Young Leadership
Award, one of the highest honors
the community can bestow. Mr.
Pelavin currently is serving as
treasurer of the council, has been
for several years chairman of
the community relations commit.
tee and serves as a member of
several other important council
committees. As a member of the
executive committee, he par-
ticipates in top leadership dis-
cussion. A past president of
Temple Beth El Brotherhood
and a member of the temple
board. he was co-chairman of
the council's Charter Young
Leadership Training Program
and has been chairman of two
divisions in the Flint United
Jewish Appeal.
Nationally, he is a member of
the executive committee of the
executive committee of the NCRAC

munity Relations

cil) and a mem-
ber of its com-
mission on
church-state and
interreligious ac-
tivities. He also
serves on the

on leadership develop-
ment of the CJFWF (Council of
Jewish Federations & Welfare
Funds). He was just appointed
associate chairman of the newly
organized CJFWF National Corn-

presented a paper at the CJFWF
General Assembly on fund-raising
techniques which was highly ap-
plauded and which has been re-
quested by many other cities. Mr.
and Mrs. Pelavin were members
of the 1966 UJA young leadership
mission to Israel.
