Bormann's Presence
in S. Brazil Reported
by Ex-SS Corporal
LONDON (JTA)—Martin Bor-
mann, Hitler's deputy, is alive
and taking refuge in a small town
in southern Brazil, near the Para-
guayan border, the Sunday Times
stated here Sunday on the basis
of a report from a former corporal
in the Nazi SS.
The ex-corporal, Erich Karl
Wiedwald, told the newspaper he
had last seen Bormann at Monte-
video, Uruguay, in 1965. He
claimed he had helped Bormann
escape from Berlin after Nazis
were defeated in 1945. He named
three other prominent ex-Nazis
who, he said, were living in South
Amerce.
These men are Gen. Richard
Glucks, a Nazi officer responsible
for the property of gassed Jews,
allegedly living in Chile, where he
had "passed" as a Jew; the in-
famous Dr. Josef Mengele, who
had been the "selection" doctor at
Auschwitz - and Heinrich Mueller.
the immediate superior of A-iolf
Eichmann. Wiedwald was quoted
as saying that Mengele lives in
Paraguay, while Mueller lives in
northeastern Brazil.

The potash works to the north
of the Dead Sea had to be aban-
doned in 1948. When the installa-
tions were destroyed by the Jor-
danian forces: only the Southern
plant on the site of the Biblical
Sodom continued to function. A lit-
tle further north of these works on
a 1,230 ft. high mountain plateau—
is the ancient fortress of Masada
where 960 Jewish patriots put up
a last resistance to the Romans in
the year 77: and rather than ac-
cept subjugation, killed themselves
in despair, after holding out for
three years against the besieging
Roman legions below.
A Jerusalem physicia n, Dr.
Moshe Atlas, who came to Israel
after World War II from his native
Czechoslavakia where for 18 years
he directed the mineral spa of
Bardejev, has examined a thermal
spring at Kibutz Ein-Geddi — a
desert oasis on the Western shores
of the lake. At a depth of 84 ft. be-
low Dead Sea level, he found a sul-
phurous underground water source
emerging, it appears, out of the so
far deepest approachable stratum

Further south, another desert
oasis, Ein Bokek, boasts a min-
eral spring which according to
Dr. Atlas, has all the qualities
of the world- renowned Muhl-
brunn spring at Karlsbad, in
Western Czechoslavakia. It
erupts from a hill slope some
819 ft. above Dead Sea level.
Professor F. G. Sulman, pharma-
cologist at the Hadassah Medical
Center in Jerusalem, has declared
that the mineral springs at Ein
Bokek should definitely be labelled
a therapeutic water which could
easily be exported to many coun-
tries. Dr. Atlas himself carried out
an experiment on scores of patients
in an Old Age Home where he
worked as house physician for
many years. He had his patients
drink mineral water from Ein
Bokek over a period of several
weeks. The result was that the
Cholesterol content of their blood
receded most markedly.
There is every likelihood, there-
fore, that one day the lifeless, deso-
late shores of the Dead Sea will be
turned into one of the most unique-
ly therapeutic centers of the world
—a sources of health-promoting
life to the suffering.

with the seventh day of the Hebrew
month of MarCheshvan (according
to one opinion, on the third day).
The Talmud then states an opinion
that in the Disapora (evidently re -
ferring to Babylonia of those days)'
the custom was to begin, this plea
on the 60th day of the fall season.
This is the partctice we still fol-

practice, is, of course, the obvious ;
realization that the well-being of
man depends upon the proper rain-
fall in its time. The plea is insert-

one prays for prosperity — the
