‘Shark Island,' Maurice Edelman's Political Novel Set in Caribbean

Maurice Edelman, now in his
22nd year as a Labor member of
the British House of Commons, is
considered the modern Disraeli
in the sense of his being another
Jewish member of parliament who
has emerged as a distinguished
writer and a novelist.

Unlike Disraeli, Edelman re- tains this characteristic.

TAKING A LOOK AT the sky,
last week before going to bed,
Bobby Greenspan, five-year-old son
of Ida and Roy, asked his mother
if he would go to heaven someday
.. Told that he would, little Bobby
then asked if she would be there
. . . "I hope so, said Ida," "And
daddy'll be there, too." . . . The
little fellow shook his head em-
phatically, "My daddy won't be
there—he couldn't leave the store."

ASKED WHETHER HE had ever
reached any of his boyhood hopes,
Lou Trotsky replied, "I sure have.
When my mother used to comb my
hair, I often wished I didn't have
any."

WE'D LIKE TO SEE AGAIN . . .
the old Club Chez LeRoix put on by
the former members of Rex Chap-

now members of Rex Lodge, Bnai
Brith, and could still do a mighty
good job . . . The trio of Joe Sil-
berschein, Harold Adler and Saul
Ginsburg . . . Moe Hozman soloing
on the deep down blues . . . and
so many of the other guys who
served as waiters and danced in
the chorus . . . Those who remem-
ber will recall "Little Joe" Stone
as emcee . . . and harry Mirvis,
straw hat and all, giving his re-
gards to Broadway . . . The fellows
won't believe it, but Club Chez-Le-
Roix was back in 1948.

DURING A STAY ON business in
Japan, Al Adelman received a let-

could send her a genuine back
scratcher . . . "Sorry, darling," Al
replied, "I couldn't get you the
back scratcher because they
wouldn't let her through customs."

AFTER ARRIVLNG IN Hunts-
ville, Ala., to get settled before
sending for wife Harriet and their
children, Leo Hollander, who left
his teaching post at Oak Park High
to become a research engineer with
the Saturn space program at Boe-
ing, stopped at a light and didn't
know which way to turn ... Fellow
in another car honked him to the
curb and directed him . . . Seeing
the Michigan license plates, he in-
troduced himself as Max Mosiff
. . . He was the fellow Leo was to
look up when he got to Huntsville
... Max is a Detroiter also, working
with the space program at Chry-
sler's in Huntsville_
