JNF Women's Auxiliary Leaders
Plan Donor Event for Jan. 23

.

Ready for the annual donor event, which will culminate with
the tea for contributors at Temple Israel, Jan. 23, officers and fund-
raising division leaders of the Women's Auxiliary of the Jewish
National Fund conferred this week on plans to expand the vital work
in Israel through the JNF with the assistance of the Detroit donors.
Participants in the planning session included (from left): Mesdames
William Levin, president of the auxiliary; Larry Chanin and Pearl
Nosan; and, standing, Mesdames Charles Friedenberg and Max
StoHann.

Adas Shalom Sisterhood
Pre-Donor Rally to Focus
on 'Judaism and Arts'

"Judaism Through the Arts" is
the subject to be explored at Adas
Shalom Sisterhood's pre-donor ral-
ly, an open meeting to be held
12:30 p.m. Monday in the syna-
gogue social hall.
Mrs. Joseph Katchke, president,
has invited friends to hear Mrs.
Leonard Kasle, artist and lecturer ,
whose remarks will be illustrated
with slides and pictures.
Mrs. Kasle studied art in New
York and Detroit and received her
BS in art education from Wayne
State University. Interested in all
art forms, she recently served as
consultant to the U. S. Steel Corp.
for the Detroit Automotive Art Ex-
hibition.
Mrs. Jacob Axelrod will lead the
singing of the national anthems,
accompanied by Mrs. George Bas-
sin. The invocation will be deliv-
ered by Mrs. George Liss, and Mrs.
Leonard Cahan will read the d'var
Torn.
Following the program, many'
gifts will be presented to holders
of donor tickets, announced Mrs.
Carl Lichtenstein, program vice
president. Dessert luncheon will be
served by Mrs. Baruch Ulyrch,
hospitality chairman, and her com-
mittee during the social hour pre-
ceding the program. The donor
will be held Feb. 14 at the syna-
gogue with Judith Keith as guest
performer.

Merl Drive Pre-Campaign Iromen's Division
to Commence Activitv at Luncheon, Jan. 10

The Women's Division of the
1968 Allied Jewish Campaign—Is-
rael Emergency Fund will hold its
pre-campaign cocktails and lunch
session at noon Wednesday, at the
Great Lakes Club.

Atkins of W. Nine Mile Rd., Oak
Park, announce the engagement of
their daughter, Nena Elizabeth, to
Stuart Michael Portnoy of Chicago.
Mr. Portnoy is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Irving Louis Portnoy of Sko-
kie. III. He is a graduate of the
University of Illinois. A May wed-
ding is planned. The couple will
live in Chicago.

Morris Adler will present the story
of the 1968 campaign.
Mrs. Arthur H. Rice is Women's
Division campaign chairman and
Mrs. I. Jerome Hauser is presi-
dent of the division.
Executive vice-chairmen of pre-
campaign are Mrs. Melvin Kolbert
and Mrs. Hyman Safran.
On the pre-campaign advisory
council are Mesdames Sidney J.
Allen, Eugene J. Arnfeld, Harry
Becker, Hymen C. Broder, Abra-
ham Cooper, Max M. Fisher, Sey-
mour J. Frank, Ivor J. Kahn, Abra-
ham Srere, Max Stollman and
Frank A. Wetsman.

Hope, will meet 8 p.m. Saturday
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jules
Olen, 20640 Knob Woods, South-
field.
Final tabulations of fund-raising
activities will be taken. A social
hour will follow.

The program, in a coffee house
asmosphere, will include Israeli
dancer Yehuda Bromberg and folk
guitarist Cheri Lipson providing
the entertainment. Social and Is-
raeli dancing also will be featured.
The program is open to young
adult women age 18-26 and men
age 18-30 at a nominal charge.
