TEL AVIV—A jeep carrying civilians was fired upon along the Araba Road, south of the
Dead Sea, Tuesday night, but none of the occupants was hurt, a military spokesman reported
Wednesday. The incident occurred near Ein Yahav where an Israeli soldier was killed Tuesday
afternoon in a clash with marauders from Jordan. Another soldier and a civilian member of the
settlement were injured.
The clash and the latest shooting were the first incursions by armed bands from Jordan
into the Negev, Israel's southern region, which has been relatively quiet since the June war.
