Joseph Dies in Robbery Friday, December $, 1967-47 Judge Samuel Charles Halpert, former Detroiter who was a judge on the Dade County Workmen's Compensation Board, died Wednes- day at age 62. Judge Halpert, who was born in Peabody, Mass., left Detroit for Miami 20 years ago. He was a graduate of Harvard and its law school and a member of the Har- vard Alumni Club. The judge also belonged to the Michigan, Florida and American bar associations and was a former member of the board of trustees, Temple Israel of Miami. He had been named Man of the Year by a professional group in Miami. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Ida Alpert, a nephew Myron Alpert and a niece, Mrs. Leo (Elaine) Stern, all of Detroit. Charles E. Joseph, 20841 Kip- ling, Oak Park, died of a heart at- tack during a robbery in his home Nov. 30. The coroner's report said the attack was caused by a blow on the head. Two men entered the Joseph home around 10:30 p.m. Both Mr. Joseph and his wife Jean were present. Mrs. Joseph was un- harmed, but jewelry, furs and cash were taken. Oak Park police are investigat- ing the robbery. Mr. Joseph, 54, was a native of Detroit. He owned Duke Loan Office on W. Eight Mile Rd. for the past 20 years. He was a member of Oak Park Lodge, Bnal Brith, and Masons. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Kenneth; a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Joyce) Rosett; two Jack Gilbert, Head brothers, Dr. Milton and Dr. Leslie; and two grandchildren. of Fruit Wholesalers Jack J. Kamins, dentist for many years with offices in the David Broderick Tower, died Thursday at age 69. Dr. Kamins was retired the past five years. Born in Chicago, Dr. Kamins was a graduate of Northwestern University dental school He was team dentist for the Detroit Lions during the 1940s and continued to Maintain close ties with the players. He himself played profes- sional football and was a boxer. Anti-Fascist Scholar ROME (JTA) - Prof. Georgio Levi della Vida, an internationally famous scholar and authority on Hebrew, Semitic and Islamic stud- ies, died here at age 81. He was eulogized by President Giuseppe Saragat for his academic achieve- ments and his opposition to the fascist regime. Dr. della Vida was one of 12 distinguished professors who re- fused to take an oath of loyalty to the fascist government in 1930 and preferred exile to life in a fascist country. During his period of exile, he taught at the University of Pennsylvania. At the time of his death, he was professor emeritus at Rome University, the Accade- mia de Lincei, the Hebrew Univer- sity in Jerusalem and at other Italian and foreign institutions.
