Disabled Veterans Home for Holidays
Via Radio With Bnai Brith Assistance

Home was brought thousands of
miles closer for many disabled pa-
tients spending Thanksgiving at
the Veterans Hospital in Al/en
Park, thanks to the joint efforts
of the Metropolitan Detroit Bnai
Brith Men's and Women's Coun-
cils, their community and veterans
services committee chairman Sher-
man Goldman and the Michigan
6 Meter Club, an amateur radio
club of which Sherman is director
of local affairs.
The radio club installed spe-
cial antenna systems and provided
the radio equipment prior to the
holiday so that personal holiday
greetings and messages could be
sent and received.
This was the sixth year of "Oper-
ation Hospital." These messages
are also sent at Hanuka, Christ-
mas, Passover and Easter.
Goldman is himself an amateur
radio operator and active for many
years in community and veterans
work. Mrs. Sam Bernstein is wom-
en's council CVS chairman.
The committee functions every

month of the year, when Bnai Brith
lodges and chapters service the
Veterans Hospital with variety
shows, refreshments and donations
of comfort items.
Downtown-Fox and Centennial
lodge and chapters were co-hosts
at the Operation Hospital affair.
Lou Konick and Charles Weiss
are co-chairmen of CVS for Down-
town-Fox, and Burton Altman is
CVS chairman for Centennial.
On Dec. 15, Oakland-Century
Lodge will entertain the children
at the Wayne County Child De-
velopment Center in Plymouth.
Larry LaBell, CVS chairman, will
head the delegation.
