theaters in Yiddish, two in the
Romanian language and from time

a theater in the Bulgarian lan-
guage. The actors of the Roman-
ian and Bulgarian theaters do not
belong to the Union of the Artists.
Actors in Yiddish earn from 500
to almost 1000 Israeli pounds a
month. Contracts are made for at
least five months and the actor is
obliged to play 20 times during
one month. For every additional
performance he is being paid sep-
arately. Each group consists of 12
actors.

GREENFIELD PARK—A call to
religious Jewry to "channel the
new religious stirrings among Jews
in the aftermath of Israel's Six-

mitments" was made by Rabbi
Itzchok Meier Lewin, internation-
al president of the Agudath Israel

delegates participated.
Rabbi Lewin, who had flown
from Jerusalem to participate in
the conclave, also called for a
huge emigration of religious Jews
to Israel.
The convention adopted a series
of resolutions calling for increased
government aid to nonpublic Iu
schools, intensification of Agu-
dath Israel's efforts to project an
independent Orthodox Jewish posi-
tion on public affairs, expanding
the Agudist youth movement which
now embraces over 20,000 chil-
dren, and increasing the organiza-
tions activities for religious proj-
ects in Israel.
A resolution was also adopted
"deploring the convening of a
world conference of Orthodox
synagogues in Jerusalem this win-
ter without the advance sanction
of leading Tora-authorities, who
have since expressed strong dis-
approval of an international re-
ligious gathering in which the over-
whelming majority of Israel's Tora
scholars refused to participate as
a matter of principle."
The convention also resolved to
"continue the organization's maxi-
mum efforts to help save Israel
from its physical dangers, without
foresaking its historic struggle to
prevent the corrosion of Israel's
soul by national assimilation,
which threatens Israel's spiritual
survival."
The convention closed with the
election of a five-man presidium
consisting of Rabbi Moshe Fein-
stein, Rabbi Mordecai S. Friedman,
Rabbi Moshe Horowitz, Rabbi Ben-
jamin Hendles and Rabbi Chaskel

Rabbi Morris Sherer, who had
served as the organization's ex-
ecutive vice president for the past
25 years, was elected executive
president. Rabbi Sherer called up-
