The 36th general assembly of
the Council of Jewish Federations
and Welfare Funds now being held
in Cleveland has drawn many De-
troiters, a number of whom are
playing important roles on the pro-
gram.

sembly banquet Saturday evening
at which Whitney Young, executive
director of the National Urban

cil's delegation to Israel during the
early fall, he will report to the as-
sembly on latest developments in
that country and their implications.
Mrs. Merle Harris, winner of De-
troit's Sylvia Simon Young Leader-
ship Award, will be a part of the
program on women in communal
service. Kaye G, Frank, who was
awarded the 1967 Frank A. Wets-
man Young Leadership Award, and
Mrs. Harris will be honored along
with young leaders from other
communities during the assembly.

Defensive Driver Program
to Improve Good Motorist

The Defensive Driver Program,
developed by the National Safety
Council and presented here by
Mutual Insurance Association of
Greater Detroit to teach good driv-
ers how to drive better, will open
9 a.m. Nov. 27 at the Dearborn
YMCA and 7 p.m • Nov. 28 at the
Northwestern YMCA.
The program consists of four
class sessions, each taught by a
council-certified instructor.

More than a million dollars in
Israel Bonds was sold in Toronto
Tuesday night at a dinner in honor
of the 70th birthday of D. LOU
HARRIS, national chairman of the
Israel Bond drive for Canada. More
than 1,000 persons attended the
dinner sponsored by the Israel
Bond campaign. Harris was pre-
sented with the Prime Minister's
Medal of the state of Israel, created
by Prime Minister Levi Eshkol in
special recognition of the role of
Israel Bonds in Israel's develop-
ment.
