Our Greek coreligionists have in-
troduced a casserole dish which
they no doubt have borrowed from
their Greek hosts but to which they
added an ingredient or two of their
own which makes it palatable to
Jewish culinary taste. For a sooth-
ing dessert, here is a tasty Lemon
Custard Pudding-Cake.

Meat and Potato Casserole
1 lb. chopped meat
(beef, veal or lamb)
1 onion, minced
1 clove garlic, minced.
salt and pepper to taste
(:( cup oil
6 medium potatoes, sliced
small can tomato sauce
1 bay leaf
Saute onion in oil until transparent;
remove from pan, add garlic, and save.
Fry potatoes in oil until slightly brown;
remove from pan and save. Add onion
and garlic, salt and pepper to chopped
meat and fry for about three minutes.
Grease casserole. Spread potatoes on
bottom cover with meat, add layers of
potatoes and meat until all used up.
Cover with a bay leaf, pour rest of oil
over It, cover and bake in 350 degree
oven fo rone hour.
Lemon Custard Pudding Cake
1 cup sugar
1 ,6 cup of flour
3 tablespoons butter
2 egg yolks
Juice 1 large lemon
1 cup milk
2 egg whites beaten stiff but not dry
Mix flour, sugar and butter together,
add egg yokes, milk and lemon juice
and mix well. Fold in egg whites beaten
stiff. Bake in greased and floured cake
pan set in a pan containing about 2
inches of hot water in a 350 degree
oven for about 35 minutes or until a
silver knife inserted comes out clean.
