at age 82 after a long illness.
Coming to the United States
from Vilna when he was 22, Mr.
Jeshurun became active in the
Workmen's Circle. He wrote ex-
tensively for the Yiddish press and
edited the works of many leading
Yiddish writers.
He was named financial mana-
ger of the Forward in 1921 and
was a founder of the Jewish Labor
Committee, ORT, the United Hias
Service and the Yiddish Pen Club.

Philip Kalbfeld Is Dead;
Active in Brith Abraham

YONKERS (JTA) — Philip Kalb-
feld, grand master of Brith Abra-
ham, a national Jewish fraternal
order, died in New Rochelle Hos-
pital Oct. 28 at age 70. He was a
founder of the Northeast Jewish
Center here and a member of the
Yonkers Mayor's Community Rela-
tions Committee.
Brith Abraham, organized in
1887, fosters brotherhood, Jewish
ideals and traditions, and concern
for the welfare of the Jews; pro-
vides fraternal benefits to mem-
bers; and supports camps for un-
derprivileged children and aged
persons.

Manufacturer Harry Mays

Harry Mays, manufacturer and
owner of the Mays Optical Case
Co., 743 Beaubien, died Oct. 25 at
age 58.
Mr. Mays, 15344 Miller, Oak
Park, was a native of Philadelphia
and lived in the Detroit area for
the past 16 years.
Survivors are his wife, Rose; a
daughter, Mrs. Lawrence (Sandra)
Jabenis of Overland Park, Kan.;
and two sisters, Mrs. Frances Zuck-
erman of Chicago and Mrs. Claire
Jeffries of Cincinnati. Interment
Kansas City, Mo.
