old Negro girl, the youngster call-
ed her grandmother (folks don't
have a phone) and friends galore
to read the item . . . "I wouldn't
be a bit surprised," writes Sally,
"if The Jewish News picks up a
flock of Negro subscribers."

Ringling Brothers Bring
New Circus Acts to Town

The Ringling Bros., Barnum &
Bailey Circus has opened its five-
day stay at Cobo Arena Wednes-
day with 400 performers, includ-
ing 25 European acts never before
seen in America.
In addition, there is the largest
herd of performing elephants in
the world, 200 assorted animals,
and four new lavishly costumed
production numbers.
Among the newly acquired Euro-
pean imports are the Alexandrovs,
a high perch-pole troupe who per-
form at amazing heights support-
ed on the shoulders of a single
understander.
The circus will stage evening per-
formances through Saturday at
8:15, Sunday at 6:30. Matinee per-
formances will be at 2:30 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday.

Polish Film 'Border Street'
to Be Shown Here Oct. 28

The Polish film, "Border Street,"
depicting the tragedy of Warsaw

Jews who took up arms against the
Germans and died fighting, will be
shown 8 p.m. Oct. 28 at Cong. Beth
Joseph.
The film, with English subtitles,
was directed by Alexander Ford.
"Sholom, Israel," a short subject,
will be shown with it. Proceeds will
go toward orphans in Israel.

door.
