Dr. Gary Steinman
Written Up by
Science Academy

A 1959 Flint Science Fair win-
ner is featured in an article in
the current issue of the proceed-
ings of the National Academy of
Science.
Dr. Gary D. Steinman, assistant
professor of biochemistry at Penn-
sylvania State University, suggests
that chemical predestination—and
not chaos or accident—guided the
origin, evolution and reproduction
of substances essential to all forms
of life.
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Morris
Steinman, 3500 Southgate, Flint
Township, Dr. Steinman joined the
staff of Penn State in February
1966, after completing his doctor-
ate at the University of California,
Berkeley. He worked there under
Melvin Calvin, a Nobel Prize win-
ner.
