WASHINGTON — The presi-
dents of 25 national organizations
comprising the American Jewish
conference on Soviet Jewry and
key leaders representing 125 Jew-
ish communities in 30 states gath-
ered here this week to demand
that Soviet authorities end their
policy of denying religious, cultur-
al and communal rights to the
nearly three million Jewish citi-
zens of the USSR.
Presidential adviser Walt W
Rostow expressed "sympathetic
awareness of the problems affect-
ing Soviet Jews," Rabbi Israel
Miller said Wednesday after a
meeting at the White House of
U.S. officials with the leadership
of the conference.
The delegation called for imp-
lementation by President Johnson
of previous promises to seek relief
of the anti-Jewish pressures in the
Soviet Union.
The Jewish leaders asked the
administration to communicate to
Moscow "concern for the contin-
uing plight of Soviet Jewry."
The White House meeting lasted
50 minutes. It was also attended
by Presidential aide Nathaniel
Davis, former U.S. Ambassador to
Bulgaria.
Rabbi Miller quoted Rostow as
pledging that the govenment would
continue to convey United States
concern to Moscow through avail-
able channels.
The Rabbi said the delegation

JERUSALEM (ZINS) — An un-
usual delegation will visit a num-
ber of countries in behalf of the
Keren Hayesod.
The delegation will consist of a
military orchestra to be conducted
by Danny Kaye, internationally
known singer and comic.
The delegation will visit Rome,
Milan, Geneva, Zurich, Brussels,
Antwerp, Paris, London, Montreal,
Toronto, Vancouver, Winnipeg,

burg and Capetown.
urged a greater sense of urgency
by the U.S. government in view of
the anti-Jewish drive that emerged
in Eastern Europe in the wake
of the Six-Day War.
A request was made by the dele-
gation for the use of the Voice
of America facilities and cultural
exchange contacts to sustain the
morale of Russian Jews.
Rabbi Miller said greater at-
tention was needed because of the
new Soviet campaign of "incred-
ible vilification" against Israel and
Zionism that have been unleashed
by Soviet authorities.
Dr. William A. Wexler, national
international president of Bnai
Brith, told the delegation that con-
tinued determination by'„American
Jews must be exerted to focus at-
tention on the Russian anti-Jew-
ish campaign. He said Americans
Jewry must be persistent in ;defense
of Soviet Jewry as young Jews of
Russia are in seeking to retain
their identity. He cited the over-
flow crowds that attended Rosh
Hashana services in Russia this
year, despite the hate campaign.
This year, crowds exceeded even
the extent of last year's worship
in Russia, he said.
In an address before the group
at the Shoreman Hotel Tuesday
night, Rabbi Miller, chairman of
the conference, declared that "the
sparks of hope that we were be-
ginning to discern in token con-
cessions to Soviet Jews have all
but disappeared.
Rabbi Miller noted that "Jews
are the last major minority group
in the Soviet Union still subjec-
ted to a policy of deprivation,
discrimination and depression.
On the eve of the 50th anniver-
sary of the October Revolution,
is it too much to expect that
Jews have restored to them the
full rights guaranteed by the
Soviet constutition.?"
. The Jewish communal leaders
had meetings scheduled with their
individual Senators and Congress-
men. Rabbi Miller kindled an eter-
nal light for Soviet Jewry on the
steps of the Senate office building.
