Philip Roth, who authored the
best-selling 1967 novel "When She
Was Good," will be remembered
as the author of "Goodbye, Colum-
bus."
"When She Was Good," pub-
lished by Random, stayed for
months on the best sellers' list.
Born in Newark, N. J., in 1933,
educated at Bucknell and Univer-
sity of Chicago, Roth's earlier
work, "Columbus," which includes
a novella and five short stories,
won the 1960 National Book Award
for Fiction. He won second prize
for "Defender of the Faith" in the
1960 0. Henry Prize Story Contest.

Dr. Goldstein received his aca-
demic training at Cambridge Uni-
versity. where he obtained his
bachelor, masters and doctoral
degrees. He is the recipient of
numerous honors and memberships
in learned societies throughout the
world. He was made an Honorary
Fellow of St. John's College in
1965 and he was awarded the
Timoshenko Medal of the Ameri-
can Society of Mechanical Engin-
eers that same year. In 1953 Dr.
Goldstein was awarded Israel's
highest scientific honor—The Weiz-
mann Prize for Science.

The cocktail party in Dr. Gold-
stein's honor is open to members
of the Detroit Chapter of Technion.
Technion is a beneficiary of the
Jewish Welfare Federation.
