Leader to Deliver
Abeles Address at
CJFWF Assembly
Whitney M. Young, Jr., executive
director of the National Urban
League, will give the annual Herb-
ert R. Abeles Memorial Address,
the keynote speech at the 36th
general assembly of the Council
of Jewish Federations and Welfare
Funds, to be held in Cleveland, at
the Sheraton-Cleveland, Nov. 15-19.
Young, who has been one of the
country's leading figures in civil
and human rights programs and
who has been commenting regular-
ly on the recent ghetto riots, will
speak on "Humanizing our Cities."
The Abeles Memorial Address
was established in 1961 in memory
of Mr. Abeles, who was president
of the council from 1955 through
1959 and died the following year.

'Cactus Flower' Actress

written by the famous contempo-
rary German composer, Carl Orff,
and will be one of the most spec-
tacular productions presented on
a tour of the U.S.

"Cactus Flower" each night at
Fisher Theater, Barbara Louis
steps out of character and heads
to her sister's house in Oak Park.

Broadway-bred sister for the dura-
tion of the Detroit run of the Abe
Burrows hit.
Miss Louis, a native of Latrobe,
Pa., is no stranger to Detroit audi-
ences. She appeared with Menashe
Skulnik in "Uncle Willie" at
Northland Theater nine years ago
and more recently has been doing
television commercials and soap
operas (the nurse in "As the
World Turns"). She is an alumna
of the Pittsburgh Playhouse School
of Drama.
In "Cactus Flower," which •
opened five weeks ago in Colora- •
do. Miss Louis has a character
role and is understudy for the
lead, Elizabeth Allen.
The actress, whose forte in corn-
mercials is trick voices, such as
children and animals, has also had
parts in films, "but Broadway is
my love," she said.
