W. German Ministry
Says Neo-Nazi Party
Lost 5,000 Members

(Direct JTA Teletype Wire
to The Jewish News)

BONN — The West German
ministry of the interior reported
Monday that the German Na-
tional Democratic Party, a neo-
Nazi grouping, had lost at least
5,000 members since organiza-
tion two years ago.
The ministry estimated the
party's present membership as
from 23,000 to 25,000 paying
members.
A change in the composition
of the party was noted, with the
intellectual and civil service
elements dropping out. The cen•
tral membership of the party
now lies in the middle-class, the
ministry said.
Most of those who quit the
party in the leadership dispute
that erupted earlier this year
had no rightist radical past and
few of them joined newly-formed
National People's Party, set-up
by dissident National Democrats.
