a member of the New York State
Committee Against Discrimination
and a prominent Republican
leader, reported at a luncheon
Tuesday on a fact-finding visit he
has just completed to Israel as a
basis for recommending a Middle
East policy for his party.
Katzen, who has toured the lib-
erated areas and has talked with
prominent Israeli leaders, includ-
ing Prime Minister Levi Eshkol,
made three basic observations:
first, that Israel is "fully con-
scious" of the geographic and
demographic problems arising out
of the acquisition of new terri-
tories; second, that Israel "desires
security and durable peace"; and,
third, that Israel is "conscious of
her new role" in the Middle East
and will not easily yield to any
pressure which does not entail
lasting peace and security."
Katzen characterized as "seri-
ous" the anti-Jewish and anti-
Israel remarks made at recent
Negro rallies in the United States.
He said that "irresponsible ele-
ments" take up an anti-semitic
position in "inciting" Negro audi-

positions.
Rev. Martin Luther King, Negro
civil rights leader, is expected in
Israel shortly to discuss the prob-
lem with Israeli authorities, Kat-
zen said.

sures us of their fulfillment in the
