ACLU to Help Nazis Win Burial in National Cemetery for Rockwell ARLINGTON, Va. — The North- ern Virginia Chapter of the Ameri- can Civil Liberties Union has ac- cepted a Nazi request for help to bury the cremated remains of George Lincoln Rockwell in a military cemetery. Lawrence Speiser, director of the chapter, said the group will seek a court injunction to force the Army to permit interment of the remains of the American Nazi Party fuehrer. Matthias Koehl, Rockwell's suc- cessor, said an urn containing the remains would be held "in sacred trust" at the headquarters while the party goes to court. The Army originally granted permission for Rockwell, a former Navy commander, to be buried in Culpepper National Cemetery. but the burial party was blocked by troops when party members re- fused to shed Nazi paraphernalia. A judge in Arlington County, Va., ordered reduction in amount of $10,000 Wednesday in the bond of John C. Patler, 29, disgruntled "stromtrooper captain" of the American Nazi Party charged with the murder of Nazi leader George Rockwell. Attorneys for Patler said the reduction was not enough and that they would immediately petition the Virginia Circuit Court to have it reduced further. The attorneys had asked for a $45,000 reduc- tion in the $50,000 bond that has kept Patler confined since his arrest on Aug. 25. Arlington county Judge L. Jack- son Emery said the reduction was "as much consideration as can be given the defendant in view of all the circumstances." The judge referred to Arlington police re- ports of threats to Patler's life and absence of proof that Patler would remain in the locality if his bond was reduced to the extent of setting him free pending trial. Thomas J. Morris, an attorney for Patler, told newsmen that re- duction was meaningless because Patler could not raise $40,000 bond. After his ruling, the judge set Sept. 28 for a preliminary hearing in the Patler case. The judge must then decide whether there is suf- ficient evidence to present the case to a county grand jury.
