Slate Events for Bonds: Israelis to Speak

Jan and Lillian Bart, "Fiddler
on the Roof' recording stars, will
be guest artists at the Town and
Country Club Presidential Salute
to Israel Dinner-Dance 8 p.m.
Sept. 16. The affair will honor all
club past presidents and is on be-
half of Israel Bonds.
The Barts will present in Eng-
lish and Yiddish their version of
the musical hit "Fiddler on the
Roof." Jan Bart, lyric t e n o r,
humorist and raconteur• was com-
missioned ,to translate the entire
score of "Fiddler on the Roof'
into Yiddish. His recording is the
largest selling Jewish record ever
produced. Bart has received the
American-Israel Friendship Award.
Lillian Bart is a distinguished
singer in her own right.
Guest speaker will be Captain
Avner Azulay of the Israeli Army,
who has just been appointed Is-
rael trade commissioner for the
Midwest.
George Steinberger is president
of the club. Eugene Weiss is chair-
man of the affair.

Col. Menachem Aviram, com-
mander of the Sinai Tank Corps
in the. Six-Day War, will be guest
speaker at a leadership reception
dinner 6:30 p.m. Sept. 18 in the
Casino Room of the Sheraton-
Cadillac Hotel.
The reception will be in advance
of the Bnai Moshe Israel Victory
Dinner honoring Norbert Rein-
stein, former
president a n d
leader in the
congregation and
community.
Col. Aviram

armored brigade
which was the
first Israeli unit
to reach the east

Col. Aviram Canal. He served
as brigade commander under Gen.
Israel Tal and commanded the
troops which broke through to the
Suez Canal by conquering Rafahm
El Arieh, Birgafgafa and Ismaliya.
He was born in Rishon I.e'
Zion and joined the Hagana at
age 16. In 1947 he entered the
Hebrew University and when the
War of Liberation broke out he
was appointed company com-
mander in the southern front.
He remained in the army and
during the Sinai Campaign of
1956 headed the operations
branch at general headquarters
. working . under Moshe Dayan.
Col. Aviram studied at the
French Staff College and in 1958
was promoted to commander of
the paratroop brigade. He trans-
ferred to the armored corps after
three years. In 1964 he resumed
his studies at the Hebrew Univer-
sity, earning degrees in economics
and political science.
