play by Tennessee Williams based
on the author's own short story,
"Man, Bring This Up Road."
"Sunburst" went before the
cameras on location on the Medi-
terranean island of Sardinia, with
Miss Taylor portraying "the rich-
est woman in the world," Burton
playing the part of an uninvited
guest while Coward depicts a

Samuel Goldwyn, Sr., this week
is celebrating his 85th birthday at
his studio in Hollywood, with three
million dollars in the till for two
runs each of three of his latest
films on ABC television. As spe-

LAST WEEK'S feverish baseball
series between Detroit and Min-
nesota had folks searching every-
where for good last-minute tickets
to the two twi-night doubleheaders
. . . Ray Berg finally secured a
couple of ducats to the first twin
bill and took wife Ida, with t h e
apology, "They're the best I could
get." . . . The Tigers won both
games . . . and where did the
Bergs sit? . in the box next
to Tiger owner John Fetzer!
HELEN LUTZ, chairman of the
10-year Central High reunion of
1957 at Cobo Hall, has finally paid
all the bills of the good-time get-
together and made out a check
for the balance to the Cancer
Foundation . . . Since the January
and June classes were made up of
Jews and non-Jews, it was decided
to give the money left over to a
nonsectarian cause.
IT WAS A BLIND date for our
community-ite lothario . . . With a
voice like hers, she must be a
knockout, he thought . . . That
night, our hero went to pick up
his date . . . He rang the doorbell
and before him stood the most at-
tractive girl he had ever seen ...
She served his hors d' oeuvres, a
drink and put on the hi-fi with soft
melodious music . . . Boy! This
was living! . . . Who said not to
take chances with blind dates? ...
While he was on cloud nine, the
doorbell rang and in walked an-
other fellow . . . tall, handsome
and built like a football player ...
"This is my fiance," she said, in-
troducing them. "My sister will be
down in a minute." . . . Then they
walked out saying goodby . , . Oh,
the sister? . .. Well, our commu-
nity friend is still getting over the
shock!
DR. JACK JACKMAN claims
this actually occurred, and we can
believe it, because it rings true
. . . It sounds like a typical child's
reaction .. . The little niece of a
friend had a birthday party and
when the guests had gathered at
the table for food and refreshments
the maid brought in a great big
platter of shimmering jello - . .
The lights were shining through it
and it shook and shivered all over
. . . The children clapped their
hands in glee and cried, "Give me
some ! Give me some." . . All
except the niece of Jack's friend
. . . She said, "I don't want any
of that." . . . Her mother said,
"Why not?" . "It ain't dead
yet !"

start Sept. 1 with Karel Deisz di-
recting. Vanessa Redgrave portrays
the title role with Jason Robards,
Jr. as the flamboyant Paris Singer,
American heir to the Singer Sew-
ing Machine fortune, one of the
three famed lovers of Miss Duncan.
