Gutterman, a masters degree candidate in humanities at San Francisco State College until he fell ill last December, died Monday in Flint. A former De- troiter, he was 25 years old. Dr. Liss' sister, Mrs. Albert Glassman, and brothers George and Mortimer are Detroit area residents. A native of Poland, Dr. Liss came to the United States when he was 12. His son, Dr. Shelly E. Liss, a Houston physician, recalled that his father "started the first grade when he was 12." At age 16, he joined the Jewish Legion of the Canadian Army in Palestine. A diary he wrote is now on exhibit in the Legion's museum in Israel. After World War I, he attended U. of M. He received his dentistry degree at the University of Texas, Houston. Dr. Liss was a member of Cong. Emanu El, Bnai Brith, Zionist Or- ganization of America, American Jewish Congress, Elks, Masons and Shriners. He was a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite. A life member of the American Den- tal Association and the Houston District Dental Society, he also was past secretary of the Academy of General Dentistry.
