Barbra Streisand didn't take too much offense when she stated that to her mind two of the male sex symbols were Woody himself and Menashe Scholnik. * * * CARPENTERS, PAINTERS and artists are busy, busy, busy doing over the former Boesky's on James Couzens Highway . . . At a party given there to a group of our boys about to go overseas . . . one of the fellows was so impressed with the fare that he kept the menu as a constant reminder of what awaited after his hitch. Wonder if he's thinking about -the Skylight Room, the steak dinners of the succulent corned-beef sandwiches? * * * THE PORTS OF CALL in Toronto boasts of many restaur- ants under one roof. Depending upon what your mood may be, they have a facility to please you. While we have nothing like that locally, it is more than surprising the number of ethnic restaurants we have here catering also to al- most every whim and taste of the individual. Stern, Bernstein Boycott Athens Music Festival NEW YORK — Violinist Isaac Stern and conductor Leonard Bern- stein have joined actress Melina Mercouri's c a m- ' 1 paign to boycott the Athens music festival this sum- mer in protest against suppre- sions by the Greek military junta. Stern, who had an Aug. 8 engage- ment there, is a close friend of Miss Mercouri, deprived of her Greek citizenship Melina last week because she has spoken against the military regime. Stern and his colleagues, Eugene Istomin, pianist, and Leonard Rose, cellist, canceled an earlier appear- ance in Athens late last month and instead went to Israel to give concerts. Latin American Nations Show Support for Israel RIO DE JANEIRO (JTA) — A Brazilian diplomat proposed that Brazil offer to take in a large proportion of the Arab refugees for settlement in the Amazon River region along with Brazilian colon- ists. Carlos Dunshee de Abranches, Brazilian representative on the United Nations Human Rights Commission, made the proposal in an article in Jornal do Brasil. He called on Israel and those mem- bers of the United Nations who contribute to the support of the refugees, to set up a fund to fi- nance the resettlement of the refugees in Brazil. In Jerusalem, Yakov Tsur, president of the Jewish National Fund, who returned recently from a mission to Latin America on behalf of the Israel government, paid tribute to the "steadfast loyalty and friendship" which Latin America has shown to Is- rael in its struggle for life and independence.
