He said that "in the Christian conscience," suf- fering people, Arab and Israeli, "must take priority over tradi- tional nationalism." Noting that the people of Israel "have suffered anxiety for their national security," Dr. Espy con- tinued that "it is our hope that this anxiety will now be relieved and that Israel will be generous in her victory in preparation for a new day of peace and understand- ing in the Middle East." Adding that "the work of recon- ciliation must be the task of everyone," the Protestant leader declared that "this is not the time to acquiesce in unilateral action. WASHINGTON—The Equal Em- ployment Commission ruled Tues- day that employers who refuse to hire an employe because of his religious beliefs must prove that they would have faced undue hard- ship if they had done so. The commission formally an- nounced guidelines concerning ob- servance of the sabbath and other religious holidays as they relate to job discrimination. They came as a result of a year-long study undertaken after several charges were filed alleging religious dis- crimination. The guidelines affect mostly Or- thodox Jews. Another story goes that Nasser is upset because he says, in his defeat, he was outnumbered by the Israelis. "But President Nasser, look at the millions of Arabs you have on your side?" "Yes," answers Nasser, "but Israel has two million Jews and I have none." One American teenager noted that Egyptian tanks must have five gears: Four reverse gears, one forward.
