ferences in the metropolitan area.
It will be produced by the Uni-
versity of Detroit, in cooperation
with Wayne State University,
Mercy College, Oakland Univer-
sity and Marygrove College.
Organized early this y e a r,
CANN draws its membership
from an area bounded by Wood-
ward, the Southfield Freeway,
Fenkell and Eight Mile Road.
Community councils already es-
tablished within this area are
working in cooperation with
CANN on its larger community
efforts. A general drive for
members is planned later this
year.
The new group is also co-spon-
soring with U. of D. an 53,500
summer school program for high
school students. Called "Aim
High," it is an enrichment pro-
gram for 42 students aimed at
better preparing them for college .
Fr. Lawrence Green of the Uni-
versity of Detroit, is administer-
ing this program and will also
direct the open housing program.
Funds for both CANN projects
comes from various public and
private sources including the
federal Higher Education Act of
1965.
Other officers of the new com-
munity organization include Dr.
Abraham • Citron, Wayne State
University, second vice president,
and Mrs. Everet Straus, member-
ship committee chairman.
