Grad Gets 'A' for a History of Jewish News JWV Gets Freedom Award Malcolm Abrams, June 1967 Wayne State University graduate, received the plaudi's of the WSU department of journalism for his final term paper on the subject "A History of The Jewish News." For the past two years a part- time editorial department assis- tant on The Jewish News staff, Abrams was given the assignment of writing a Jewish News history by the department head, Prof. W. Sprague Holden. Dr. Holden graded Abrams' paper with an "A" and commend- ed the graduating student for a task excellently performed. He re- commended that his paper be pub- lished. Detroit Summer Theater's initial offering of "WEST SIDE STORY," which opens at the Art Institute Auditorium July 4, for six days, will feature the complete Leonard Bernstein score and a cast of 30. The producers, Robert K. Adams and Audley M. Dr. William Haber, president of American ORT Federation, heads a four-man delegation to Israel. Harry Platt of Detroit has been designated as a member of the delegation. The aim of the study mission, as outlined by Dr. Haber, is to assess damages inflicted on ORT schools and other ORT installa- tions during the recent fighting and to discuss with Israel ORT officials the enlarged responsibili- ties to be assumed by the program in the light of the changed situa- tion. Mr. Platt is president of Detroit Men's ORT and a member of the executive committee of the Ameri- can ORT Federation and of the Central Board of the World ORT Union. An attorney at 2080 Penob- scot, he has just resigned as the permanent umpire of the Ford Motor Co. and the United Auto- mobile Workers' Union. The delegation plans to report to the international ORT executive committee scheduled to meet in Geneva, Switzerland, July 2 and 3. It will also meet with ORT leaders from North Africa and France to evaluate the impact of Jewish refu- gee movements in these areas. The ORT program in Israel com- prises the largest network of vo- cational and technical education schools in the country.
