David Wineman, a professor of
social work at Wayne State Uni-
versity, has been named the Leo
M. Franklin Memorial Professor
in Human Relations at WSU for
1968.
Prof. Wineman, 18044 Kentucky,
was singled out for the honor on
the basis of recommendations
made by a faculty committee. It
is given annually to a faculty
member who has made an out-
standing contribution to the field
of human relations.
A graduate of WSU, where he
received his BA degree. Prof.
Wineman received his MSW de-
gree from the University of Michi-
gan. He came to Wayne State in
1954 and is presently professor of
social work and chairman of
Human Behavior Sequence.

Prior to his WSU appointment,
he served with the Wayne Coun-
ty Bureau of Social Aid and the
Jewish Family and Children's
Service.

From 1946 to 1948 he held the
post of executive director at Pio-
neer House, an experimental resi-
dential unit for pre-delinquent
boys. Prof. Wineman and another
WSU professor, Dr. Fritz Redl,
published findings on the work
done at Pioneer House in two vol-
umes, "Children Who Hate" and
"Controls From Within."
Prof. Wineman has contributed
many articles to professional jour-
nals and has been published in
"Parents' Magazine" and "Child-
craft."
As Franklin Memorial Professor,
he is responsible for planning the
annual Leo M. Franklin Memorial
Lectures in Human Relations. The
series was established in 1950 by
Temple Beth El in honor of Dr.
Leo M. Franklin. rabbi of the
temple, who died in 1948.
