THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

Friday, June 16, 1967-9

This last Sabbath, Jews, for the first time in 19 years stood by the Wail-

ing Wall in the old City of Jerusalem, but they not only wept, they rejoiced

because the entire City of Jerusalem, after a lapse of 1900 years was again

in Jewish hands.

A miracle has happened, with God's help. A little nation of 2,500,000

has decisively whipped 7 active Arab enemies with a population of over

50,000,000. The whole world is applauding the achievements of the gallant

forces of Israel. We beam with pride when we read or hear of the glorious

victories won by the Jewish State. The days of the Maccabees are being

relived ...

But these incredible victories were won at a grievous price. Mothers are

mourning their sons; bereaved wives are weeping over their husbands ...

Besides shedding their blood, the people of Israel are undergoing tremen-

dous hardships, for their economy has been disrupted, trade and commerce

have come to a standstill, businesses and factories are closed, tourism has

been suspended, crops are rotting in the fields and the war is costing Israel

upward of 5 million dollars each day.

In these never to be forgotten days, Israel has asked us to launch The

Israel Bond Emergency Campaign and the Israel Emergency Fund. The goal

of these joint compaigns is One Billion Dollars. This sum must be raised

within the next few weeks, for CASH is needed NOW !

I am, therefore, appealing to all my fellow Jews to respond imme-

diately to Israel's critical needs, to become partners in her struggle to stabi-

lize her national life and to achieve economic and social normalcy — to

win the peace.
