MILLIONS ARE INVESTED an-
nually in the entertainment that
is presented almost around the
clock . . . Nothing closes . . .
-73 Hotel accommodations and res-
taurant prices are surprisingly rea-
sonable ... The brightly lit fronts,
__,.l much brighter than Times Square,
turn night into day . . . Folks ar-
– .4 riving at night and seeing Las
.1 Vegas from the air, are enchanted
—A with the jewel-like appearance of
the desert floor . . . Separate from
"The Strip" there is a downtown
business section known as Casino
Center'. .. The hotels in this area
include The Mint, Fremont, Horse-
shoe, Pioneer, El Cortez, Four
Queens and Sal Sagev.

In LOS ANGELES we dined the
first night with Lil and Sam Dictor
at Portofino in the Beverly Hill-
crest Hotel . . Turk Prujanski
took us to Jack LaRue's in Holly-
wood . . . best was a Friday night
kosher dinner at the home of
Rebecca Prujanski, Turk's mother
. . . Now in her 80's she is still a
wonderful cook . . . Her chopped
liver, chicken soup, etc. kept us
aware of Friday night at our own
mother's house in Detroit.

WHEN WE RETURNED to De-
troit, Fred Starr had taken over
the Brass Rail on Adams down-
town ... The downstairs 250-seat-
ing capacity lounge is beautiful.
the food and service excellent and
Harvey Fine heads a fast-moving
stage show . . . We've yet to find
an end to Harvey's talents! . . .
He does comic routines, sings,
dances, mimics, plays violin and
even conjures up new material
while on stage . . . The Brass Rail
downtown has to rank with De-
troit's top niteries ... and Freddy
has the tiger firmly by its tail !
