MIDDLE EAST SLIDES TOWARD BRINK OF WAR—Made up of reservists, an
Israeli army armored unit maneuvers south of Tel Aviv, where tension increased as
Egypt announced the closing of the Gulf of Aqaba to Israeli shipping. The announce-
ment was made shortly after the U. S. warned it regarded the narrow Strait of Tiran
leading to the Red Sea from the gulf as an "international v.atermay.'
