Tree Grows in NY —
a Gift From Israel 1

P&L 3a Q-

PitatooaPhrgth-

19164 LIVERNOIS

NEW YORK—A tree from Is-
rael started growing last week in
Central Park. i
A sapling black locust (Robinia
pseudoaccacia) was planted just
west of Fifth Ave. between 69th
and 70th Sts., at ceremonies at-
tended by city officials, members
of Israel's diplomatic corps and
officials of Sunday's "Salute to
Israel" parade.
The tree was flown from Israel
as a gift from Israel's people to
the people of the United States
"in grateful acknowledgement of
the help given by Americans over
the past 19 years in helping
Israel's people to live in peace,
freedom and human dignity."

Tree-Planting Costs
Up JNF Price to $2.50

Beginning Oct. 1, the price for
planting a tree in Israel will be
$2.50 instead of the present $2, ac-
cording to an announcement by Dr.
Milton Aron, executive vice presi-
dent of the Jewish National Fund
of America.
Dr. Aron said the increase was
necessitated by the steadily mount-
ing costs of tree planting in Israel.
For years, the JNF had resisted
pressures from Israel for higher
rates per tree, but was forced to
yield in order not to retard JNF's
current afforestation program,
calling for the planting of 5,000,-
000 trees during the 1967-68 sea-
son in Israel.
