history. Earlier Fox had lost in
the final of the Thunderbird In-
vitation in Phoenix, Arizona, by a
7-5, 6-3 score.
Esme Emanuel of South Africa
won the women's singles at an in-
ternational tennis tournament at
Tel Aviv. She downed her Aus-
tralian opponent in the final 9-7,
6-1 . Tom Okker of the Nether-
lands had a good indoor season.
The Maccabiah Games champion
won the French Indoor crown and
the Brussels Indoor. In Davis Cup
play however Okker won only one
singles match as the Dutch lost
3-2 to the South Africans.

Southpaw broadcaster Sandy
Eoufax threw out the first ball on
opening day at Dodger Stadium ...
Another oldtime pitcher, Al Scha-
cht has sold his New York restau-
rant. "I'll have more time to make
personal appearances in ball
parks," said the 74-year-old "Clown
Prince of Baseball."
Richie Scheinblum, switch-hitting
outfielder from Engelwood, N. J.,
is with the Portland Beavers of
the Pacific Coast League. The 24-
vear-old is hoping to get a call
from the Cleveland Indians before
the season ends.
Mickey Abarbanel, 21-year-old
hurler from Oakhurst, N.J., is also
in the Pacific Coast League with
the Indianapolis Indians of the
White Sox organization. Like an-
other Jewish pitcher in Chicago,
Abaranel is a lefty. He was the
strikeout leader of the Class A Mid-
west League last year and had a
13-4 record.
Sherwin Minster is holding down
second base for the New York
Mets' Williamsport team of the
Class AA Eastern League .. . Al
Diamond, a cousin of Mike Ep-
stein, has been assigned to the
Elmira Pioneers of the Eastern
League. A catcher. Diamond played
in the California League last year

. Jerry Bark, yet another south-
paw hurler, is with Winter Haven
of the Class A Florida League.
Bark, 21, from Baltimore, is hop-
ing to impress the New York Met
front office.
Barry Latman, with Hous-
ton, was the first Astro pitcher to
win a game in relief this season.
Latman, 6-3, 230, is the biggest
player on the team. When the man-
ager wants him, he signals to the
bullpen by spreading his arms wide
apart. Latman wears a size 50
coat . . . Art Shamsky, who hit 21
home runs last year, mostly as a
pinch hitter for the Reds, is still
on the bench. He has been unable
to crack the Cincinnati starting
outfield.
Jim Prigoff of the City Athle-
tic Club of N.Y. won his sixth
National Squash Tennis champion-
ship at Sleepy Hollow Country
Club in Scarborough-On-Hudson,
N. Y. The 39-year-old from New
Rochelle, N.Y. defeated his op-
ponent, 15-8, 15-8, 5-15, 15-13, in
the final of the 53rd national tour-
nament.
Allan Fox of Los Angeles cap
tured the Masters tennis tourna-
ment at St. Petersburg, Florida.
Fox stopped his Yugoslav rival in
the final, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
Ile became the first American to
win the tourney in its eight year
