Detroiter Honored at Special Bar-Ilan University Function

Special to The Jewish News

RAMAT GAN, Israel — A group
of visiting Detroiters was honored
here May 18 at a luncheon ex-
tended by President Max Jammer
of Bar-Ilan University.

With Mrs. Max Stollman, na-
tional chairman of Bar-Ilan Women
of America, presiding, the program
of Bar-Ilan was outlined by Presi-
dent Jammer, Prof. Marshall Lu-
ban of Seattle, Wash., presently a
faculty member of Bar-Ilan, and
Pinchus Spielman, public rela-
tions director of the university.

The luncheon was addressed by
the hosts at the luncheon who rep-
resented the university and Philip
Slomovitz, one of the visiting De-
troiters.
Guests included, in addition to
Mrs. Stollman, Mr. and Mrs. Philip
Slomovitz and Gabriel Slomovitz,
the following: Mr. and Mrs. Nor-
man Cottler, Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Bodzin, Mr. and Mrs. Max Ostrow,
Mr. and Mrs. Leon Dreylinger,
Melvin Stollman and Mrs. Samuel
N. Heyman, former Detroiter now
residing in San Francisco.

A feature of the event at Bar-
Ilan was the unveiling by Mrs.
Stollman of a tablet with the
names of more than 300 Detroit-
ers who have been enrolled as
life members of Bar-Ilan Women

There are three things that arc
lordly in stride.
Four that are stately in gait:
The lion, which is mightiest among
beasts.
And turns not back before any:
The strutting cock, and the he.
goat,
-
And the king at the head of his
people

If you hale been foolish in exalting
yoursel f
Or if you hare hatched a scheme,
Lay your hand upon your mouth!
For, as the pressing of milk brings
forth curds,
And the pressing of the nose
brings forth blood,
So the pressing of anger brings
forth strife.

Rabbi Isaac Stollman, former I
president of American Mizrachi
and a former prominent Detroit 1
Jewish community leader, in of
message to his Detroit friends ex-1
pressed great satisfaction with de-
velopments in Israel.
"We are inspired by occur-'I
rences, we are encouraged by the
spirit of unity, we are certain that
the talk about economic upsets is
exaggerated," Rabbi Stollman said.
"It's a great privilage to live here
and I am especially happy to say
to my Detroit friends that I am
convinced that tensions over reli-
gious conflicts are easing, there
we have, assuredly, a great spirit
of unity and of cooperation. We are
blessed here and what we do here
becomes a blessing for the entire
Jewish people."
