Horror of Death Camps Still Haunts
Lives of Survivors After 22 Years

Although the horror ended 22 vors still feel guilty for having

years ago, the experiences of thou-
sands of Jews in Nazi concentra-
tion camps is having its effect on
the lives of the survivors who
came to the United States. This
was the conclusion of two psychiat-
ric reports coming out of the
American Psychiatric Association's
convention in Cobo Hall.
The reports are based on inter-
views with 155 survivors of con-
centration camps.

One reminder of the camps
is smoke. Many feel terror and
anxiety when they smell it, while
others have psychologically re-
jected smoke, remembering un-
consciously the Nazi crematoria.
One report, written by Dr. Peter
Ostwald, University of California,
indicated that survivors of the
camps are still plagued with com-
pulsive reminiscing of their lives

in the camps.

TEL AVIV (JTA)—The United
States Embassy announced here
that the first two weeks in Novem-
ber will be "American Fortnight"
at Israel's newest and biggest de-
partment store, the Shalom in Tel
Aviv. The embassy stressed that
the aim of the event was to pro-
mote American-made products in
Israel.

At the "ONN" Special School and Kindergarten in Tel Aviv, a
Young beneficiary of HELP, Inc., learns to walk despite his cerebral
palsy. HELP for Cerebral Palsy Children in Israel, Inc., is an
organization founded in New York seven years ago dedicated to
helping some 10,000 palsied and mentally retarded youngsters in
Israel, where it cooperates with many of the recognized agencies
and projects in the field. Among HELP's beneficiaries are the ONN
School, the Ofakim School in Haifa and the School for the Handi-
capped in Jerusalem, where children receive special therapy in
addition to normal school lessons; the Sheltered Workshop for yo nth
age 16-22 who are taught weaving, typing, ceramics, carpentry and
other handicrafts; the John F. Kennedy Center, which takes care
of bedridden non-educable children suffering from cerebral palsy;
and the Spewack Sports Club for the Handicapped, in Ramat Gan.

Official Predicts Hike
in Israel Arms Output

REHOVOT (JTA)—Deputy De-
fense Minister Zvi Dinstein pre-
dicted that in five to eight years,
Israel will produce up to 70 per
cent of its defense requirements
compared with the present 20 to
25 per cent.
