Four Days Remain to Reach Campaign Victory

With only four days left in the
1967 Allied Jewish Campaign.
campaign leaders see every indi-
cation that the total announced at
the Victory Dinner 6 p.m: Wednes-
day at the Jewish Center will sur-
pass last year's figure.

Trial of Nazis Accused of Mercy
Is On; Probes to Continue Past 1969

FRANKFURT (JTA) — A trial
of four Nazi doctors, charged with
the "mercy killing" of more than
90,000 persons during World War
II, is under way here.
The chief defendant is Dr. Ger-
hard Bohne, 64, who was extradit-
ed from Argentina last November
on the charges. He was accused
of helping to organize the Nazi
program for the killing of men-;
tally ill and physically deformed
Germans under the Nazi euthanasia
program. On trial with him are
Dietrich Alters, 56, Reinhold Vo-
berg. 64. and Adolf Kaufmann. 64.
Bohne also was involved in the
creation and camouflaging of the
Nazi gas chambers and in selec-1
tion of the Nazi execution squads
which later murdered thousands of
Jews. However. he is on trial here
only on the mercy killing Charge.
Initially. Bohne had been or-
dered to stand trial in Limburg in
1963 with three other medical of-
ficers of the Nazi regime on the
euthanasia charges. But the prin-
cipal defendant. Dr. Werner
Heyde, hanged himself in a prison
cell whil awaiting trial and an-
other defendant fell or jumped
from a window and perished.
The trial which opened here
April 25 was expected to last .nine
months, and 120 witnesses were
isted to testify.

Despite the Fact that, under
the amended West GerMan law.
the statute of limitations on the
prosecution of war criminals is
due to become effective Dec. 31,
1969, the government's Central
Office for the Investigation of
Nazi War Crimes, at Ludwigs-
burg, is expected to continue
operating for 18 months longer,

Wiesbaden Won't Rent
City Hall for NPD Parley

BONN (JTA) — The manage-
ment of the city hall of Wiesbaden
has canceled a contract it had to
rent the hall to the National Demo-
cratic Party (NPD) for the party's
congress.
The contract was canceled as a

result of pressure by the Wies-
baden Municipality, which holds 75
per cent of the ownership of the
hall's management. A spokesman
for the NPD said that a suit would
be brought against the manage-
ment to fulfill its contract.

Karl Arthur Rittler, the only
member of the Munich City Coun-
cil elected by the neo-Nazi NPD,
has resigned from .that party, it
was announced by Munich Mayor
Hans . Jochem Vogel, who is a
member .of the Social Democratic
Party. According to the mayor.
Rittler. however, remains as a
member of the city council.

Jean Pierre Aumont. French
star of television. motion pictures
and the stage. will entertain at the
victory dinner with a program of
songs. Aumont has long' been
known in this country for his per-
formances which began in the late
1930s on stage with Katherine Cor-
nell. He has done more than 60
movies and become an author and
playwright.

paign will make reports at the
victory dinner prior to the an-
nouncement of the final figure.

and professions; David S. Mon-
dry, Benjamin Frank and War-
ren D. Greenstone, mercantile;
Leonard J. Borin and Robert A.
Steinberg, services; Kaye G.
Frank and Merle Harris, mech-
anical trades; Harold Berry and
George M. Zeltzer, real estate;
Paul Borman, Peter B. Copeland
and Reuben Cottler, food; Al-
bert M. Colman, Dr. John N.
Grekin, Dr. Sidney 0. Siegan,
professional; Richard L. Kux,
arts and crafts; Louis E. Barden,

metropolitan; Mrs. Robert G.
Portnoy, junior; and Mrs. Ar-

thur R. Rice, women's.

With 19,000 pledges already in
and 5.000 more to obtain, all divi-
sions are manning telephones to
call prospects for pledges prior to

the victory dinner. The junior di-
vision will make calls from the
Fred M. Butzel Memorial Build-
ing Sunday and Monday. Other di-
visions are using business offices
throughout the city to reach con-
tributors.

2,000 New Yorkers
at Histadrut Third Seder

NEW YORK (JTA) — More than
2,000 guests of the 35th annual
Histadrut Third Seder paid tribute
to the modern pioneers of Israel
and called for the "deliverance"
of the Jewish people still denied
their rights to live freely as Jews.
The celebration sponsored by the
Greater New York Histadrut Coun-
cil was addressed by Governor
Nelson A. Rockefeller and Israel
Consul-General Michael Arnon.
