Suburban . Detroit Theaters will
open its 11th movie house, the
Towne Theater, early this spring
at Greenfield and 101/2 Mile Rd.
This is the fifth theater built
by the chain since 1962 and the
latest since the Sloan brothers,
Richard and Eugene, teamed with
Adolph and Irving Goldberg to in-
troduce the Northland Theater last
summer.
The Towne, according to Eug-
ene Sloan, is designed to en-
compass the best features of the
large and small theater. The
Towne will have the spacious
lobby features of the large movie
house, and the "compact inti-
macy of the art theater," Sloan
said.
The Sloans have commissioned
Swedish-born Svea Kline to exe-
cute several works to be set in
niches along the lobby walls.
Eugene Sloan revealed that the
Towne is to be a forerunner of
four more motion picture theaters
which Suburban Detroit Theaters
will build during the balance of
this year and 1968.
