The answer to this question is
basically a practical one. Since
these objects are used to collect
and gather the hamtez, it is pre-
ferable that they be burned along
with the hametz so that no crumb
of leavening be left behind after
the search and burning of the
hametz in the Jewish home. A
wooden spoon is also used because
it can be burned (something that
cannot be done to a metal spoon).
The use of the feather is a most
practical method of thoroughly
sweeping up the crumbs of
hametz. The feather is thin
enough and light enough to get
into corn e r s and into tight
crevices. Also, it can easily be
burned along with the hometz
which it has swept up.
