He will speak in Yiddish. read and interpret his own poetry. Glatstein is a columnist on the Day-Journal and Kemfer. editor of Folk un Yell of the World Jewish Congress and head of the Yiddish office in the department of public relations of the American and World Jewish Congresses. He has written 10 books of poetry, three novels and five vol- umes of essays, all in Yiddish. A sixth is forthcoming. His poetry has been translated into English, Glatstein was twice the recipient of the LaMed Prize for poetry and prose, received the Kovner Prize of the Jewish Welfare Board for poetry, was awarded the Leivick Prize for 1966 and the Kessel Prize of Mexican Jewry the same year. He was also awarded the Bimko Prize for his essays. Glatstein is the author of "Homecoming at Twilight." Among his poetical works are "Credos," "Father's Shadow" and "Joy of the Yiddish Word." His collected essays in five vol- umes reflect a broad range of Jewish interests and concerns. His recent book of poetry is en- titled: "A Feed fun Lublin." Meyer Waxman, author of the five-volume "History of Jewish Lit- erature." has written that Jacob Glatstein's contribution to Yiddish is "particularly outstanding." His novels are described as noteworthy for their "great skill in narration and penetrating psychological in- sight into human character." Waxman writes: "The muse of Glatstein is many-phased, for the themes he sings about are num- erous and all of them are perme- ated with a genuine spirit, sat- urated with love for his people. with longing for the distinct Jewish life which prevailed in Poland where he was raised, and with joy in the birth of the Jewish State."
