GRAND BLVD. By Guest Columnist DR. JACK JACKMAN Seven years ago I filled this space as a guest columnist for the .first time. Since then, many things have happened and one of the most joyous events is the 25th an- !, niversary of the founding of The . Jewish News. To the editor and publish .r. who :1::s already received the ;::audits of our state, county and c.:y offi- cials, the business giants o. indus- , try and men and women front all walks of life, I extend my personal felicitations and congratulations, not only because it is a milestone, but also because of the tremen- . dolls and gigantic job he has done ' which has endeared himself in the hearts of the citizens of Detroit ! and Michigan. With the founding of The Jewish News on March 27, 1942, a column appeared under the picture and hy-line of one Danny Raskin, a lit- tle-known personality about town, but one who seemed to have the pulse-beat of the community with- ' in earshot most of the time. Over the years my acquaintance with Danny has flowered and bloomed I into a close friendship, and through this treasured relation- ship, I have had opportunities on many occasions to glance through his scrapbooks. From personal knowledge, not hearsay, I know Danny has gone on foot and out of his way numer- ous times to lend a helping hand. Many families can be grateful to him for providing food, supplying medical needs and clothing. He has been instrumental in solici- tations for many of the needy, for blood to swell the banks of several organizations, an clothing drives. And who would be his greatest booster? None other than kindly, Yiddishe Momme Minnie, who, though over 80, but still agile and spry, continues to clip the col- umns, "Listening Post" and a newer one,• "The Best of Every- thing," and pastes them in their respective scrapbooks for her "Danny Boy." Mrs. Raskin re- minds me so much of a typical Yiddishe Momme, that I am re- minded of some of the words from the song of the same name, "Her je•-els and trea-sures, she found them in her baby's -smile." May the Good Lord continue to look upon you with kindness, and, bless you with happiness and good health for many years to come. Jew Named to Cabinet of the Netherlands (Direct JTA Teletype Wire to The Jewish News) AMSTERDAM—The new Dutch cabinet announced Monday includes a Jew, Dr. Carl Polak, 47, as justice minister. Prof. Polak of the Uni- versity of Leiden is the fourth Jewish justice minister in Dutch parliamentary history.
