Dan Tolkowsky Due ill Detroit; Ex-Israel AF Chief to Talk for Technion, Campaign A two-day visit to Detroit next week by Brig. Gen. Dan Tolkow- sky, former commander in chief of Israel's Air Force, was an- nounced by Robert Brody, presi- dent of the Detroit Chapter. Amer- ican Society for Technion and Allied Jewish Campaign General Chairman Alfred Deutsch. Gen. Tolkowsky will be speaker at a Detroit Chapter public meet- ing at the Jewish Center 8 p.m. Thursday. He has been invited by Dr. Leon Fram to deliver t h e guest sermon at Friday night services April 7 at Temple Israel. In addition, he will make several other appear- ances and meet with some of De- roit's community leaders. Gen. Tolkowsky He will address a report meet- ing of the Allied Jewish Cam- paign 12:15 p.m., April 7 at the Butzel Building. Gen. Tol- kow will give a first-hand report dealing with the general condi- tions in Israel that exist today. Gen. Tolkowsky, 46, is a leading business executive playing an ac- tive role in public affairs. after a career as commanding officer of the Israel Air Force. Born in Tel Aviv, he attended the Herzliya Gymnasium and re- ceived his BS degree in engineer- ing from the Imperial College of Science and Techonology, London, in 1941. , He volUnteered for services with the Royal Air Force in 1942, and saw active service as a fighter pilot in the Mediter- ranean Theater. He was dis- charged in 1946 with the rank of captain. Returning to engineering, he was employed by an engineering de- velopment firm in Great Britain, the general manager of which was Alexander Goldberg, now president of Technion. He left his job in Britain at the end of 1947 and re- turned to Israel to join what was then the Israel Air Force in em- bryo, as operations officer. Seven years later, he was ap- pointed officer commanding the Israel Air Force, serving in that capacity through the Sinai Cam- paign, until 1958. He was respons- ible for introducing the first jet aircraft into the air force. In 1959, Gen. Tolkowsky was appointed executive manager of the Israel Investment and Finance Corp., affiliated with the Israel Discount Bank. later becoming a managing director of the Discount Bank Investment Corp. Ile is also a member of the National Council for Research and Development. the National Council for Civil Aviation and the advisory commit- tee of the planning authority of the government. Gen.
