Jewish News of Detroit was published on March 27, 1942, when there was a time of crises for Judaism throughout the world;• and WHEREAS, the circulation of this newspaper has developed tnetropolitan character, covering many suburban communities and especially, the City of Southfield; and WHEREAS, the City of Southfield has within itd boundaries, world renouned Synagogues whose congregations come from the metro- politan area of Detroit, as well as the City of Southfield; and WHEREAS, the City of Southfield is equally honored by having the Adler Expressway within its borders, dedicated to Rabbi Adler, formerly of Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield; and WHEREAS, the Jewish News has served its *subdcribers with sincere dedi- cation to citizenship and government news thereby making a stronger and more democratic community; and WHEREAS, Mr, Philip tlomovitz, the Editor and Publisher of the Jewish News has been the inspiration and guide for this newspaper, carrying out the tradition of free speech and freedom of the press: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That I, James Clarkson, Mayor of the City of Southfield, County of Oakland, State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Monday, March 27, 1967 as THE JEWISH NEWS DAY in the City of Southfield; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the citizens of Southfield join with this Mayor in commending Philip Slomovitz for his leadership in this newspaper and honor him in this, his roll; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an official copy of this proclamation be presented to Mr,. Slomovitz and the Jewish News for their ecords.
