Volumes on American Jewish Life A recent major addition to the Safran Library of the United He- brew Schools is the first 38 vol- umes of the Publications of the American Historical Society (1893- 1949). These volumes, which represent the latest contribution by David Safran to the library, are recog- nized as the main source of in- formation concerning early Amer- ican Jewish life and are valuable to both scholars and those who have a popular interest in the field of American Jewish history. One volume contains a bib- liography of books and pamphlets by Jewish writers, or on subjects of Jewish interest, from Colonial times to 1850. Since 1961, the Publications of the American Historical Society has been published as the Ameri- can Jewish Historical Quarterly, which is received regularly by the library, according to David H. Elazar, librarian. The Safran library serves the entire Jewish community, as well as students of the United Hebrew Schools and the Midrasha. BRAVERMAN'S MATS lb.
